Turbo Manifolds
The turbo manifold carries the turbine and withstands temperatures of up to 900 °C. It is the most heavily stressed part of a turbocharged engine, and not one to choose based on price.
What it changes
A clear layout builds boost earlier: the turbo spools at a lower rpm, making the car feel more responsive where you actually drive. Above all, a properly matched flange - most often T3 - lets you fit a larger turbine than the original: this is the essential step toward a new level of power.
Cast iron or stainless steel
Cast iron withstands heat cycles without cracking and dampens vibrations: it is the durable choice for a car driven every day. Stainless steel is lighter and allows better tube layouts, so boost comes in more sharply, but it requires well-designed supports - a cantilevered turbine will always eventually split a weld.
The wastegate
An external wastegate connection lets you control boost independently of the turbine, with a dedicated valve and calibrated spring. As soon as you go significantly beyond stock boost, it is no longer optional: the internal wastegate cannot keep up, and boost starts to creep at high rpm.
