Sport Exhaust Systems
The complete system, from the catalytic converter to the tailpipe. It is the most frequently purchased exhaust component, and almost always for the same reason: the sound.
What it changes
Less baffled mufflers and a larger cross-section create a more pronounced low-end tone and a sharper-sounding rise in revs. In terms of power, there is a gain, but it remains modest on a stock engine: the restriction in a production engine is found mainly upstream, in the catalytic converter and downpipe. The second benefit, less heavily marketed and more lasting, is the weight and durability.
Group A: what it means
A Group A system follows the original routing with larger sections and less restrictive mufflers. It retains the factory mounts and rubber hangers: it is the simplest installation and does not require cutting or modifying the bumper.
Single, duplex, and the bumper question
A single outlet remains discreet; a dual outlet on the same side is the common compromise; a duplex exits on both sides and requires a suitable bumper. Check the cutouts before ordering: on some versions, bumper modification is required, and this is indicated on the product page.
Choosing the diameter
On a stock or mildly tuned engine, stay close to the factory size: a diameter that is too large may gain a few horsepower at the top end but reduce everyday drivability. Larger sections are justified behind a turbo or with serious engine modifications.
