A gasket cannot be reused

An exhaust manifold gasket has been crushed once: it has conformed to the flange imperfections and lost its elasticity. Reinstalled, it whistles when cold and eventually lets gases through, which burn the sealing surface. The gasket costs a few euros; a cylinder head's flatness costs much more.

Whenever you order a manifold, a downpipe or an exhaust system, add the corresponding gasket set: that's what makes the difference between a weekend installation and an installation the following weekend.
