Brake Fittings & Hoses
Everything connecting the master cylinder to the calipers. A braided brake hose made of Teflon with a stainless-steel braid does not expand under pressure, whereas an original rubber hose does: the pedal gains the firmness it was losing as the hose expanded.
The Dash 3 standard
Brake lines use Dash 3 (3/16"), not Dash 4: the bore is intentionally small, the pressure is high, and flow rate is unimportant. All the fittings on this page follow this standard, with common threads in M10x1,0, M10x1,25 and 3/8" UNF.
Concave or convex, the detail that causes leaks
A brake fitting seals through its conical seat, not through the thread. A convex seat inside a concave recess seals; two convex seats pressed against each other will always leak, regardless of the tightening torque. Check the shape of the seat on the mating part before ordering; it is the main reason a new circuit has to be redone.
