Sway Bar Links
The sway bar link connects the stabilizer bar to the suspension arm. Small part, big effect: it is the component that transmits the anti-roll force.
Why they break first
They work constantly, every time there is a difference in height between the two wheels. Their ball joints are exposed to water, salt, and brake dust - and eventually start clunking. The metallic rattling noise at low speed on rough roads comes from them nine times out of ten, well before the shock absorbers that get blamed.
The case of lowered cars
Lowering changes the link's working angle: the ball joint is constantly under tension and wears quickly, while the stabilizer bar may remain preloaded when unloaded. Shorter or adjustable links return the bar to its correct plane - you can feel the difference immediately when cornering, and it extends the part's service life.
