Tie Rod Ends & Steering Bars
The tie rod end links the steering rack to the wheel. It either has play or it doesn't - there is no acceptable middle ground.
What this changes
A worn tie rod end causes vague steering around the center position: the car follows road ruts, you have to make constant corrections on the highway, and the wheel alignment no longer holds between two visits to the alignment bay. It is also a safety-critical part: when a tie rod end fails, the wheel points off to one side.
Adjustable bars and uniballs
On a very lowered car, the original steering bar operates at an angle it does not like - this is the famous bump steer, where the car steers itself over bumps. Length-adjustable bars, or bars with uniballs, make it possible to correct the geometry and restore neutral steering.
After installation
Wheel alignment is mandatory, along with checking the tightness of the locknuts after a few hundred kilometers.
