What this part changes

A manifold gasket that has been crushed once has conformed to the flange's imperfections and lost its elasticity. When refitted, it whistles when cold, then lets gases through, burning the sealing surface.

The gasket costs a few euros. A cylinder head's flatness costs much more.

What to plan for

  • Order with the part: manifold, downpipe or exhaust system.
  • Clean the sealing surface with a brass brush before refitting, and tighten crosswise to the specified torque.
