What this part changes

The original bushing is made of rubber: it filters well, but deforms under load. When cornering or braking, the arm moves by a few millimetres and the alignment changes during the manoeuvre - this is the sloppiness between the steering wheel and the wheels.

Polyurethane deforms much less: the connection becomes precise and repeatable, and the car responds at the same point every time. The trade-off is more road noise and vibration in the cabin, especially when cold.

What to plan for

  • Install greased with PU or silicone grease - never use mineral grease, as it damages the polyurethane.
  • Tighten to the specified torque with the wheels on the ground.
  • On a family car, start with the front anti-roll bar before converting everything to PU.
