What this part changes

A sports brake disc is judged by its ability to dissipate heat, not by its appearance. Grooves and drilled holes remove the gases and dust that build up between the disc and pad: braking remains sharp from one stop to the next, whereas a solid disc starts to feel spongy.

On a road car, the benefit is most noticeable on a mountain descent or track day - exactly where tired brakes become dangerous.

What to plan for

  • Discs and pads must be replaced per axle, never on one side only.
  • Bedding-in: perform around ten progressive braking applications without coming to a complete stop before pushing harder; otherwise the pad may bed unevenly and warp the disc.
  • Check whether the ABS ring is supplied or can be reused when the disc carries it.
