What this part changes

A sport disc is judged by its ability to disperse heat, not by its appearance. Grooves and drilled holes remove the gases and dust that build up between the disc and pad: braking remains sharp from one stop to the next, whereas a solid disc begins to feel spongy.

On a road car, the benefit is most noticeable on mountain descents or track days - exactly where tired brakes become frightening.

What to plan for

  • Discs and pads must be replaced per axle, never on just one side.
  • Bed-in: perform around ten progressive braking applications without coming to a complete stop before pushing the brakes, otherwise the pad may not bed in properly and the disc may warp.
  • Check that the ABS ring is included or can be reused when the disc carries it.
