What this part changes

The top mount is the upper anchor point of the shock absorber: it supports the weight of the front end and allows the strut to pivot when steering. A sharp cracking sound when steering while stationary is caused by its bearing.

Competition versions replace the rubber with a bearing and a rigid connection: direct feedback, zero deformation, and sometimes integrated camber adjustment - but everything absorbed by the shock absorber is transmitted into the body.

What to plan for

Replace at the same time as the shock absorbers: the strut is already removed.
On a lowered car, they wear out faster - the shock absorber reaches the bump stop more often.
