Exhaust Tips
The exhaust tip changes neither power nor sound: it changes the look. It is the only part of the exhaust you can see, and often the finishing touch - the detail that makes a car look finished rather than cobbled together.
Universal or vehicle-specific
A universal tip is chosen by its inlet diameter and attached by welding or screwing: it fits anything, provided you measure the existing outlet. A vehicle-specific model follows the bumper cutout and fits perfectly the first time - that's what separates a neat installation from a crooked tip.
Welded or screwed
The screwed tip can be installed in ten minutes and removed for the roadworthiness inspection. The welded tip will not move and leaves no clamping marks, but you need a TIG welder and a steady hand: thin stainless steel is easily pierced.
Finishes, and how they age
Brushed stainless steel and mirror-polished finishes can be restored with polish when they become dull. Black is a coating: beautiful when new, it eventually turns blue near the outlet where the hottest gases exit. Carbon is the lightest and most eye-catching - best reserved for outlets that do not get too hot.
