Brake Fluid
Brake fluid is the component we replace for a few euros that determines everything: if it boils, the pedal goes to the floor and no brake pad can make up for that.
Read the WET boiling point
It's the only figure that matters. The dry boiling point, displayed prominently, is for new, unopened fluid - a condition that doesn't last. Brake fluid is hygroscopic: it absorbs moisture from the air, and 3% water can reduce its resistance by more than one hundred degrees. The wet boiling point is what you'll actually have after a few months.
DOT 4, DOT 5.1, racing
All these fluids are miscible with one another and compatible with original systems. DOT 5.1 has nothing to do with silicone DOT 5, which must never be put into a conventional system. Racing fluids withstand higher temperatures but absorb water more quickly: they require bleeding every season, not every two years.
Capacity
Choose the amount you are going to use. An opened bottle left at the back of a garage since last year is no longer up to the standard stated on its label.
