Control Arms & Suspension Arms
The control arm holds the wheel and takes everything: braking, potholes, acceleration. It is a wear part that is rarely replaced for pleasure - but it is also the part that determines steering precision.
The unmistakable symptoms
A sharp knocking sound when going over a speed bump, wandering in the steering wheel at high speed, sawtooth wear on the inside of the tire: in the vast majority of cases, these are the control arm bushings or its ball joint. A worn control arm allows the alignment to shift under load, and no wheel alignment adjustment will hold.
Small or large kit
TA Technix often offers two levels: a reduced kit - the two control arms - and a complete kit that adds steering ball joints, links, and sometimes sway bar bushings. When the front axle is being disassembled, the second option is almost always cheaper than having to reopen it six months later.
After installation
A wheel alignment is mandatory: the toe changes as soon as you touch an arm. And on a lowered car, this is the time to check the camber - this is often when you discover that adjustable arms are needed.
