The lip is the flat section that separates the edge of the wheel from the start of the spokes. It gives the wheel its deep-dish look, and is the main aesthetic feature of this style: the more pronounced it is, the deeper the wheel looks when fitted.

59°North publishes this measurement, making it possible to compare two models by more than just looks. At the same size, a deeper lip generally means a lower offset: check fender clearance.
