What this part changes

The spring seat is the upper mount of the shock absorber: it supports the front-end weight and allows the strut to pivot when steering. A sharp cracking noise when steering while stationary is caused by its bearing.

Competition versions replace the rubber with a bearing and a rigid connection: direct feedback, zero deformation, and sometimes integrated camber adjustment - along with everything the shock absorber absorbs being transferred into the body.

What to plan for

  • Replace it at the same time as the shock absorbers: the strut is already removed.
  • On a lowered car, they wear out faster - the shock absorber reaches the bump stop more often.
