What this part changes
The sport filter fits into the original airbox in place of the cartridge. Its mesh lets more air through over the same area: the power gain is modest and honestly barely noticeable on its own, but it involves no risk, cost, or tuning.
Its real benefit is economic and environmental: it can be cleaned and re-oiled instead of thrown away. Over a car's lifetime, it costs less than replacing a cartridge every two years, and it affects neither the noise level nor compliance.
What to plan for
- Apply a light coat of oil: excess oil can migrate to the air-flow meter, causing it to give inaccurate readings — jerking, a warning light, and increased fuel consumption.
- Clean with a dedicated product, never with gasoline or brake cleaner.
- Let it drain and dry before refitting.
