One throttle body per cylinder delivers throttle response that no shared manifold can match: the engine reacts to every millimetre of pedal movement, without the volume of air that has to be set in motion in a plenum. This is the choice for classic performance builds and track cars.

The trade-off is tuning. Idle is more demanding, the throttle bodies need to be synchronised, and the jets must be adapted to the engine, altitude and exhaust system. A well-tuned setup is spectacular; a poorly tuned one consumes fuel and stalls.
