What this part changes

The top mount is the upper anchor point of the shock absorber: it supports the front-end weight and allows the strut to pivot when steering. A sharp cracking noise when steering while stationary comes from its bearing.

Competition versions eliminate the rubber in favor of a bearing and a rigid connection: direct feedback, zero deformation, sometimes integrated camber adjustment - and everything the shock absorber absorbs is transmitted into the body.

What to plan for

Change them at the same time as the shock absorbers: the strut is already removed.
On a lowered vehicle, they wear out faster - the shock absorber reaches its bump stop more often.
