What this part changes

A manifold gasket that has been compressed once has conformed to the flange's imperfections and lost its elasticity. When reinstalled, it whistles when cold, then allows gases to escape and burn the sealing surface.

The gasket costs a few euros. A cylinder head's flatness costs much more.

What to plan for

Order with the part: manifold, downpipe or exhaust system.
Clean the sealing surface with a brass brush before reassembly, and tighten in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque.
