What this part changes

A manifold gasket has been crushed once: it has conformed to the imperfections of the flange and lost its elasticity. Once reinstalled, it whistles when cold, then allows gases to escape, burning the sealing surface.

The gasket costs a few euros. A flat cylinder head costs much more.

What to plan for

  • Order with the part: manifold, downpipe or exhaust system.
  • Clean the sealing surface with a brass brush before reassembly, and tighten crosswise to the specified torque.
