What this part changes
The sport air filter fits into the original airbox in place of the cartridge. Its mesh lets more air through over the same surface area: the power increase is modest and, honestly, barely noticeable on its own, but it involves no cost, risk or tuning.
Its real advantage is economic and ecological: it can be cleaned and re-oiled instead of being discarded. Over a car's lifetime, it costs less than replacing a cartridge every two years, and it affects neither the noise level nor compliance.
What to expect
- Oil lightly: excess oil can migrate to the mass airflow sensor, causing it to give inaccurate readings - jerking, warning light and increased fuel consumption.
- Clean with a dedicated product, never with petrol or brake cleaner.
- Allow it to drain and dry before refitting.
