Fenders & Wide Fenders
The wide fender is the mechanical solution to a wheel that sticks out. Rather than driving with a tire that rubs or tucking in the offset, you widen the wheel arch.
How much widening
Fenders are sold by their widening measurement, from +25 mm - discreet and often sufficient - to +50 mm and beyond for a deliberately bold widebody look. Do the calculations first: wheel width, offset, and any spacers. A fender that is too wide makes the wheel look lost in the void; one that is too narrow solves nothing.
Front and rear are not fitted the same way
A front fender is bolted on: it can be replaced without touching the structure. A rear fender is part of the body - the flare is bonded, riveted, or welded over it, and cutting the sheet metal is permanent.
The registration document
Beyond a few centimetres, the car's overall width is no longer the same as that shown on the registration document. Find out what procedures are required before getting started.
