Turbo Piping & Tubes
Between the turbocharger, intercooler, and engine, the air flows through pipes. The original ones are often made of rubber.
What changes
A flexible hose expands under pressure: it absorbs some of the pressure instead of transmitting it, resulting in a sluggish response. Under high pressure, it eventually pops off - the car goes into limp mode, usually at the most inconvenient time. An aluminium kit with silicone sleeves and reinforced clamps solves both problems at once.
The turbo inlet tube
On the intake side, the original inlet tube is often narrowed to reduce compressor noise. Enlarging it lets the turbocharger breathe: the improvement is most noticeable on an engine that has already been remapped and demands more flow than the stock tube is willing to let through.
What to plan for
Tighten the clamps to the specified torque, then check them again after a few boost runs: that is when they come loose. Keep the pipes away from hot spots and sharp edges, and choose a sleeve that is slightly long rather than one that is stretched.
