What this part changes

The link connects the stabilizer bar to the suspension arm: it transmits the anti-roll force. Its ball joints operate constantly and are exposed to water, salt and brake dust.

The metallic rattling noise at low speed on rough roads is caused by these links nine times out of ten - long before the shock absorbers that usually get blamed.

What to plan for

  • Always replace them as a pair: a new link installed opposite a worn one will wear out quickly.
  • On a lowered car, the operating angle changes: a shorter or adjustable link puts the bar back in its proper position.
